Vigil of Waiting
A Reflection from the Great Vigil of Easter
Holding hope in holy darkness
A THRESHOLD MOMENT
The Great Vigil invites us to pause—not in the celebration of resurrection—but in the mystery of waiting. Before light breaks, we linger in the quiet shadows, holding space for what has not yet come. This is sacred ground.
REMEMBER
God speaks in the dark: “Let there be light.”
Freedom comes in trembling steps: “The sea parted.”
New breath can rise from dry bones.
Even now, even here.
PRACTICE
When the world feels heavy or uncertain, try this:
Light a candle (or simply take one deep breath).
Name one thing you are waiting for.
Let your body move slowly in response.
– Reach, curl, open, still.Close with a word of blessing.
– “I wait with hope.”
– “I am not alone.”
A BODY PRAYER
We wait in hope. (reach arms forward)
We wait together. (place hand over heart)
We carry light within. (open hands to sky)
Repeat 3 times. Let it settle.
JOURNAL OR ART PROMPT
What does holy waiting look like in your life right now?
Draw it. Write it. Move it.
CLOSING BLESSING
Let us keep watch.
Let us carry the ember of hope.
And when the dawn breaks,
may we rise radiant with trust.
